Configuration

InteractV runs as shipped: nothing needs configuring to play. Most everyday choices (language, help, on-screen feedback, options) are in the F5 menu, which saves them for you. This page describes what you can change by hand and where.

Where the settings live

Everything you edit is under scripts/InteractV/.

In Basic, what you can edit is config/ and groups/; the other gameplay folders do not apply.

The mod also writes a data/ folder for its own memory. It is not a settings folder: leave it alone.

Edit these files with the game closed, or reload the scripts afterwards. A missing line is not an error: the mod uses its own default for it.

The main settings file

interactv.ini is grouped into sections. The ones below are the real player choices; leave any other line as shipped.

[General]: the essentials

  • Language: Language switches every player-facing text, menus, help and messages, between English (en) and French (fr).
  • Your side: PlayerGroupType tells NPCs how to see you (gang member, police, civilian…), and PlayerGroups names the gang you belong to when you are one.
  • When the mod stays quiet: it can pause during story missions and avoid starting new scenes while you are busy.
  • What you see: interaction and gameplay markers on the map, the cash display, contextual help and roleplay messages, and the notification naming your edition at startup.
  • Keys: MenuKey opens the InteractV menu; the action wheel's keys, its behavior in combat and whether it opens in a vehicle are set here too.
  • Logs: EnableLogs writes a log file, useful when you report a bug.
  • Authoring tools: DeveloperMode only has an effect in Partner, where it enables the authoring tools. Basic and Gamer ignore it.

[Character.Michael], [Character.Franklin], [Character.Trevor]

Give each protagonist their own side instead of the one in [General]. They ship commented out, so a fresh install treats all three alike; uncomment a section to use it.

[Gameplay]: how much the world involves you

  • Player involvement: whether hostile NPCs can pull you into a nearby gang encounter.
  • Insults: how throwing an insult raises the tension, and which voice lines you use.
  • Robberies: whether a shop robbery puts a clerk in the scene.
  • Weapon handling: draw and holster animations for one-handed weapons, for you and your crew. Also in F5 > Options.

[PlayerCommand]: your crew

Turns crew commands on or off, and chooses the feedback that goes with them: markers on your crew and their destination, on-screen order feedback, interaction indicators, what idle crew members do while waiting, and the key that opens the interaction menu.

[ActionWheel] and [PlayerDown]

Turn the action wheel on or off, and choose what happens when you are taken down.

[Traffic]

Thin out the ambient traffic while gangs are fighting, so the scene stays readable.

[Events]

How close to you world events can play out, on foot and in a vehicle. Whatever you set, nothing is staged right next to you or in plain view.

[PhoneReinforcements] and [FactionSms] (Gamer / Partner)

The phone contacts of your faction (backup, drive-by, Ride Along pickup), their names in each language, their map markers, and the text messages your lieutenant sends you. Basic does not have these systems: it keeps them off whatever this file says.

[Audio]

Play the recorded voice lines when a scene has one, or turn them off to keep GTA's own voices everywhere.

[Experimental]

ExperimentalFeatures is the master switch for content still in testing; it is off by default. Territory (EnableTerritory) is a regular Gamer / Partner system; the faction economy (EnableFactionEconomy) is experimental and off. Basic forces both off.

Beyond the settings file

Changing who the factions are, what they wear and drive, or what they say is done in groups/. Gamer and Partner can go further and change the scenes themselves.
