Publishing

You have coded, tested, packaged, and verified your mod. Now comes the moment that separates hobbyist code from real public software: publishing it for the GTA V community.

Where to publish

The GTA V modding scene gathers around two primary platforms:

  1. GTA5-Mods.com: The dedicated home of GTA V modding. High traffic, instant visibility in the "Scripts" category, but basic comment moderation.
  2. Nexus Mods: Excellent mod manager integration (Vortex), detailed bug tracking tabs, and active community moderation.
  3. GitHub Releases: The gold standard for open-source mods. Host your source code here and attach your clean release zip to a Git release tag.

The anatomy of a high-converting mod description

Do not paste three lines saying "Cool bodyguard mod enjoy". A professional description builds trust and drastically cuts down on repetitive support requests:

1. The pitch

One compelling sentence describing the experience:

"VIP Chauffeur Service lets you summon a discreet professional driver anywhere in Los Santos who navigates safely through city traffic while you relax in the back seat."

2. Feature highlights

Short, punchy bullet points:

  • Smooth AI driving that stops for traffic and obeys speed limits.
  • Dynamic road node snapping with collision safety.
  • Full controller and keyboard support.
  • Fully configurable payout and destination markers.

3. Requirements and installation

Clear, hyperlinked prerequisites:

  • ScriptHookV by Alexander Blade
  • ScriptHookVDotNet v3.6.0+
  • Installation: Drop scripts/ into your GTA V directory.

4. Honest compatibility notes

Name known conflicts upfront:

"Compatible with LSPDFR and ambient traffic mods. If used alongside aggressive police pursuit mods, your chauffeur may take evasive detours when sirens are heard."

Visual proof: screenshots and video

Players judge with their eyes before they download:

  • Clean 16:9 screenshots: Capture in-game moments at high settings. Hide developer menus and disable debug text overlays.
  • Short gameplay clip (15-30 seconds): A short video or GIF showing the mod in action (summoning the car, climbing in, the chauffeur driving away) is worth a thousand lines of text.

In the next lesson, we see what happens after launch: maintaining your mod and handling game updates.
